The End is Nigh...

Or I should say it is already here. So, the game is finished. We got a lot of positive feedback on the game and even some compliments by the clients on the art (yay!). Our final game had a functioning marketplace, moving obstacles that could be hit, achievements, functioning menus, and a catapult arm that moved with the adjustments. The engineers did an amazing job on this game and really deserve most of the credit for bringing this game together and making it successful. I am proud of the art that I have done so far, but I feel I am going to be typecast for the work I have done because it has been so similar in style. Really, I just chose the style because it was easy for me to churn it out and yet make it look good. Hopefully I get a chance to display my skills and show that I can draw more than cutesy vector art. I promised screenshots, but alas, I do not have it. When I get some I will update again with just an art post.

Long time no write...

So, I am horrible about updating these blogs. What has happened since last time, well, we have all of the elements in the game but the menus. We have physics in place as well as scroll bars to adjust the angle and force of launching the prince. We will soon have obstacles that he can actually run into instead of just go through and we are in the current process of building the level. Everything is coming along well. I am rather happy with the style and artwork. I will have screenshots next time when our game will be up and running. Here are pictures of some of the obstacles.

Prince Alarming's Grand Idea

I am now 5 weeks into the semester which means one prototype is down and the next is currently underway. The parameters for this prototype are as follows:
1. Must be created using XNA
2. Must be an educational game about mechanical engineering, specifically about basic physics concepts (like simple machines, springs, thermodynamics, circuits, etc...)
3. Minimal violence
4. Inclusion of mathematical equations is encouraged (although not necessary)

Our team has decided to showcase the physics of a trebuchet. The narrative follows Prince Alarming, a schmoozing man trying to win the heart of Princess Repelzul, who is up in her high tower. The Prince utilizes a trebuchet to launch himself to her window, collecting various items along the way, only to end up annoying her. She takes his items and pushes him out of the tower. Prince Alarming is a vigilant man and is willing to carry on with the abuse because he is determined to win her heart. I am going for an exaggerated cartoon look in vector style for the look of the game. Here is some concept art of our leading lad and lady. They will be redone to look more polished, detailed, and shaded.^^

More art to come soon.
